Superintendent's Letter
Williston Public School District #1 Patrons:

It is hard to believe the start of the 2017-2018 school year has already begun. I am excited about students returning to school, especially those who are new to Williston Public School District #1. The summer months may have ended, but I trust everyone had an enjoyable time with family, friends, and recreational activities.

The 2017-2018 school term will be a challenging year for District #1 for administration, teachers, support staff, and students. Williston Public School District #1 is filled to capacity. The number of new registrants to District #1 since the end of the 2016-2017 school year is over 900 students from kindergarten through twelfth grades. This count includes 369 kindergarten students starting the 2017-2018 school term. The next largest class of new enrollees is the freshman class with 60 enrollees, putting freshman enrollment at 343 students. Enrollment at Williston High School is over 1,300 students for the start of the school term. Williston Public School District #1 is continuing to grow in student numbers.

The increase in student numbers develops challenges for everyone. A major concern is the increased number of vehicles dropping off and picking up students at the start and dismissal of school. Every attendance center is affected by the increase in student numbers and parents/guardians, along with any other drivers, need to exercise greater caution when students are present. The last thing anyone wants is a student/vehicle related incident due to driver negligence. Watch out for students at key school start and dismissal times as younger students have a tendency to not be observant of their surroundings.

Williston Public School District #1 uses Alert Solutions to communicate with parents/guardians regarding school emergency situations and important announcements. Announcements are generated as voice messages, texts, and emails. To receive these messages it is essential you keep your contact information updated, including your primary contact number and email address.

District #1’s website is revamped and reorganized and may undergo additional changes throughout the school year. If there is information you require and are unable to locate, please contact the District Office for assistance.

Last, and most importantly, I want to ensure parents, guardians, and members of the Williston Public School District #1 community providing an education to our students is still the top priority here at District #1. Though times may seem stressful, we will provide students with the best education possible, thanks to the dedication of our teachers, administration, and staff.

I hope you have a great start to the 2017-2018 school term, whether you are a new student, a returning student, or someone who has been in District #1 from the start. You are now all a part of the Williston Public School District #1 family. If you have any questions, please contact the District Office.
