Career and Technical Education Month is an annual public awareness campaign taking place each February, celebrating CTE, its programs, and their importance for students of all ages.
Throughout February, we will be sharing several CTE posts per week. These will include WBSD7 CTE program overviews, highlighting educators, and showcasing student stories.
Today marks our first post, featuring the expansion of the current CTE Center and introducing our new CTE Director, Audrey Larson.
๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฟ:
Audrey Larson assumed the role of CTE Director on 1/1/2024, bringing valuable experience from her previous role as an assistant principal at WHS with CTE oversight. We are excited to have Mrs. Larson take on these responsibilities!โญ๏ธ

The construction of the CTE Center remains on schedule and within budget. Scheduled to open in Fall 2024, this center will expand on the current CTE offerings, providing opportunities for other schools in the area.
The project is made possible by a $10 million grant from the North Dakota Career and Technical Education Capital Projects Fund, along with matching donations from community partners.
Anticipation is growing as we look forward to the fall 2024 opening, not only as an addition to the Williston High School campus but also a substantial expansion of our current CTE offerings.
The project includes dedicated space for our alternative high school, enhancing accessibility for all students and the broader community.

Subject: Public Comment for 1.22.24 Board Meeting
NOTE: Public comments via Zoom participation will be given priority, and written comments will be read subsequently, as time permits within the 30-minute limit for public commenting.
Public participation at board meetings is covered under district policy BCBA. Below is a condensed version of that policy that is read aloud by the Board President at each meeting.
โPublic participation at board meetings is governed by District Policy BCBA. Meetings of the Board are conducted for the purpose of carrying on the business of the schools, and therefore are not public meetings but meetings held in public. Although there is no legal requirement that the public be given an opportunity to speak at board meetings, it will be the policy of this board to afford that opportunity in accordance with the following procedures.
Only items on the published board agenda will be discussed at any meeting of the Board unless the Superintendent or a board member requests an addition to the agenda of a regular meeting and the board members present approve in accordance with board policy. No individual may speak more than once. If you wish to provide public comment, please state your name for the record as well as the agenda item you are speaking to. Comments will be limited to no more than three minutes per individual. Public comment will be limited to no more than thirty minutes in total.
The Board has adopted policies governing patron complaints. The public is required to seek redress through these policies. The public will be prevented from commenting on a topic if it is: 1. Governed by a district complaint policy and the complainant has not followed the procedure contained in policy and/or the policy prohibits the public from bringing the complaint before the Board. 2. Concerns a topic that is prohibited by law from disclosure to the public (e.g., studentโs educational record)โ
This is a message from WBSD7 School Board President, Chris Jundt:
Dear Williston Basin School District #7 Community,
This communication is to inform our Williston Basin School District #7 community of a modification to our Board meeting format due to recent disruptive incidents that compromised the safety and effectiveness of our in-person meetings. Regrettably, a few members of the community displayed highly unacceptable behavior during the last board meeting, leading to this necessary change.
For the safety of all involved, the Williston Basin School District #7 Board meeting on January 22, 2024 will be conducted virtually, in accordance with NDCC 44-04-19. On the January 22nd Board agenda, the board will discuss the remainder of the meetings scheduled through June 30, 2024 and what needs to occur to return to an in person meeting environment that allows for the orderly conduct of business.
Specific detail on how to join or view the virtual meeting will be provided in the notice as required by NDCC 44-04-20. We encourage everyone to review WBSD7 Board Governance Culture GC-4 and Policy BCAB, emphasizing our commitment to conducting meetings in an orderly and business-like manner, guided by Robert's Rules of Order.
For those who wish to contribute their thoughts or concerns, we will maintain the option for public comments via electronic submission. Submissions will be read aloud during the public comment portion of the meeting, adhering to the existing guidelines for public comment. This allows for community engagement and ensures that your voices are heard, even in our virtual setting.
While it's unfortunate that we needed to implement this change, our commitment to making decisions in the best interest of the district remains unwavering. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety and efficiency of our Board meetings.
Sincerely,
Mr. Chris Jundt
School Board President

Ensuring the safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority at Williston Basin School District #7 (WBSD7). To enhance the protective measures in place, WBSD7 utilizes the Raptor Security System at all WBSD7 schools. raptortech.com
Raptor Security is a visitor management system that is used to protect the students, staff, and visitors at our schools. The Raptor Security System reads the visitor's driver's license and compares that information to a national sex offender database. The Raptor Security system allows staff to implement an added layer of safety for staff and students. All schools in Williston Basin School District #7 utilize this system to enhance the safety and security at our schools.
Upon arrival at a school, all visitors are asked to provide their driverโs license, at which time it will be scanned in the Raptor system. The system will print a visitor badge to wear during the visit. We thank you for your support in helping ensure the safety of staff and students.
WBSD7 Policy KAA (Visitors in the School):
ndsba.org/policies/willistonbasin/pdfs/KAAA.pdf
The Board and District Administration encourage parents and community members to visit district schools to become better informed about day-to-day operations and observe the educational process. Because schools are places of work and learning, visitors shall observe the following requirements when visiting district schools, which are created to ensure the educational environment is not disrupted:
๐ธAll visitors must check into the front office with their Driverโs license/photo ID and wear a visitorโs badge for the entire duration of visit.
๐ธVisitors shall comply with applicable state law and district policy/regulations while on school property. No person shall enter school property for unlawful purposes or for purposes unauthorized by the Board. The District shall enforce state law on willful disruption of schools. The Superintendent shall make a reasonable effort to keep the public informed about district policies pertaining to visitors such as, but not limited to drug, alcohol, and tobacco use; sexual offenders; patron grievances; and other policies designed to maintain order.
๐ธVisitors are prohibited from engaging in disruptive conduct that is interfering or interrupting the orderly operation/management of the District, or that is insulting, harassing, or threatening toward district personnel. Visitors who engage in such conduct will immediately be asked to leave school property.
๐ธSolicitors are not permitted on school property except when authorized in accordance with state law and/or applicable district policy.
๐ธVisitors shall be prohibited from videotaping and/or otherwise electronically recording district students and staff. This policy does not apply to visitors electronically recording school-sponsored events not governed by copyright laws and non-school-sponsored activities and events held on school property. The Board may also create an exception to this policy for members of the press.
๐ธPublic visits to classrooms shall not be for the purpose of evaluating teachers, teaching methods, or curriculum. Visitors who wish to observe a classroom shall schedule their visits in advance according to administrative regulations. Visitors shall agree to follow this policy and any administrative regulations governing classroom observation prior to receiving classroom observation permission.
Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding of our commitment to safety. By adhering to these procedures, we collectively contribute to the well-being of everyone within the WBSD7 community. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. We appreciate your cooperation in making our schools safe spaces for learning and growth.
Sincerely,
WBSD7 Administration

Dear WBSD7 Community,
We are pleased to share the success of our recent staff and community forums regarding the potential establishment of new schools within our district. The forums, titled "Shaping Tomorrow: Your Ideas Matter Today," were held at Williston High School, with separate sessions for staff and community members.
The engaging agenda featured a presentation by RSP & Associates, highlighting the insightful results from the "new schools survey" and crucial information on the proposed bond. Following this, breakout sessions, led by school principals and administrators, provided a platform for fruitful discussions.
Last week, we distributed an event overview, including the presentation by RSP & Associates and the discussion questions used during the forum.
