Students at Science Fair

Williston, N.D., (April 7, 2022) – On Friday, April 1st, 7 students from Williston Middle School and ASB Innovation Academy competed at the North Dakota State Science Fair at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.  We are happy to report that those students had great success! 

  • WMS 7th grade student Jacob Grunenwald won 5th place in the Junior High division for the Northwest Region.
  • ASB 6th grade student Emma McCoy won 4th place in the Junior High division for the Northwest Region.
  • WMS 8th grade student Anthony Kram won 3rd place in the Junior High division for the Northwest Region.
  • ASB 8th grade student Kingdom Falade won an award from the Department of Psychology by exhibiting an outstanding project in Psychology or Behavioral Science. This award comes with a $100 monetary award and a certificate.
  • ASB 7th grade student Landon Gaudreau was the runner-up Junior High Sweepstakes champion and won several other awards: 
    1. He won the runner-up sweepstakes. The runner-up sweepstakes winner is judged as presenting the second-best Junior High division project from all regions across the state and from any discipline category. Runner-up receives a silver North Dakota plaque and a monetary award of $100 from the UND Graduate School.
    2. From the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, an award that exhibits an Outstanding project in Atmospheric Sciences. This award comes with a $100 monetary award and a certificate.
    3. From the American Chemical Society, Red River Valley, an award that exhibits an Outstanding Project in Field of Chemistry. This award comes with a $100 Barnes and Noble Gift Card, A Periodic Table Scroll Pen, and Certificate.
    4. From Xcel Energy, an award that exhibits an Outstanding Project Related to Energy or Electricity. This award comes with a $25 monetary award and certificate.
  • ASB 7th grade student Madelynn Greco was the 1st place Junior High Sweepstakes champion and won several other awards:


      1. 1st Place Junior High Sweepstakes champion. The Sweepstakes winner is judged as presenting the best Junior High division project from all regions and from any discipline category. The sweepstakes winner receives a gold North Dakota plaque, a monetary award of $150 from the UND Graduate School, and a $250 monetary award in honorarium of Marcus J. Friskop from the Maddock High School Science Fair Alumni Students. 
      2. From the Department of Electrical Engineering, an Outstanding Project in Electrical Engineering. This award comes with a $50 monetary award and a certificate.
      3. From ISEF Alumni, an Outstanding Project as Determined by ISEF Judges. This award comes with a $100 monetary award and a certificate. 
      4. From the Society of Automotive Engineers, an Outstanding Project in Mobility engineering. This award comes with a $100 monetary award and a certificate. 

     

    Congratulations to these students who worked so hard!  We also want to thank all of those who helped these students with their achievement, including the teachers, administration, parents, and all those who volunteered their time judging projects and presentations.
