Coyotes Softball Claims First-Ever State Class A Championship
Yesterday, May 31, 2025, the Williston High School Coyotes Softball Team captured the 2025 North Dakota Class A state championship — the first in program history!
The Coyotes secured the title with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Minot in an all-WDA championship matchup in Grand Forks. Williston jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Minot battled back to tie the game. The Coyotes answered with a go-ahead run in the fourth inning — and that was all they would need. The final two-and-a-half innings remained scoreless as Williston’s defense stood tall.
Pitcher Alana Thomas delivered a complete game, striking out nine and allowing just two hits.
This championship caps a remarkable turnaround for the second-seeded Coyotes, who avenged a 9-0 loss to the Majettes just one week earlier in the WDA Championship.
Adding to the celebration, Head Coach Jesse Stundal was named Class A State Coach of the Year, recognizing his leadership and dedication to the team’s success.
Congratulations to the Coyotes players and coaches for making history and bringing home the state title!
