welcome letter from Dr. Germundson

WBSD7 Families and Community Members,

As we gear up to begin the 2025-2026 school year, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to both our new and returning families. Whether you are joining us for the first time or continuing your journey with us, we are thrilled to have you as part of the Williston Basin School District #7 community. To our returning families, thank you for your continued trust and support. To our new families, we are excited to get to know you and your students, and we are here to ensure your transition is as smooth as possible.

I would also like to take a moment to thank our community members for your ongoing support of our district and families. Your commitment to our students and schools is what makes this community so special, and we are grateful for the vital role you play in our students’ success.

Now, as we prepare for another exciting year of growth and learning, I am pleased to welcome you to the 2025-2026 school year as I begin my first full year serving as Superintendent of Williston Basin School District #7. After 21 years with this district, including 20 years as a Principal and Assistant Principal, it is an honor to serve as your Superintendent and work alongside such a dedicated team as we continue our journey of growth and excellence.

We are proud to have over 5,300 students enrolled this year (the number climbs daily), a reflection of the trust our families place in us and the growth of our community.

School will begin on Tuesday, August 19 for students in grades 1-12. Our kindergarten students will be having screenings on August 19 & 20  in one-hour time slots, with their first official day of school on August 21. We are eager to see all of our students back in the classroom!

Additionally, I want to draw your attention to our Back to School Information Hub  on the district website, which includes all the essential details to help you get ready for the start of school in August. From school and teacher assignment information to school meals, privacy notices and opt-out forms, school supply lists, fall sports start dates, and much more, you'll find everything in one place.

This year is full of exciting developments, and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead. One of the major initiatives this year is the expansion of the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) framework to Williston High School. This framework, which has been a great success at the middle and elementary school levels, will now be used across the district to promote students’ mental, emotional, and academic growth. We are committed to supporting the whole student, giving them the tools and resources to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Our district is proud to employ nearly 800 individuals, and I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our top-notch administrative team, as well as our excellent teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, and all other team members who work tirelessly to ensure our district runs smoothly and provides the highest level of education for our students.

We are also welcoming many new staff members to the district and want to express our deepest gratitude to all our returning staff. Thank you for your unwavering dedication to our students and families. Together, we make this district a place where students feel valued, supported, and inspired. Additionally, we welcome our four new school board members as they begin their first school year serving on the board. We are excited to have you as part of the team!

We are making great strides in the development of Sloulin Elementary School, and it is exciting to watch the construction progress as we prepare to open this new school for our elementary students next year.

Thank you for your continued support. I am proud to be part of this incredible district, and I look forward to a wonderful 2025-2026 school year filled with growth, learning, and excitement!

Sincerely,
Dr. Germundson
