Information on Attendance

Consistent attendance is a critical part of each students' learning journey, and we’re here to support you! At Williston Basin School District #7, we believe that regular school attendance is a team effort.

Our district attendance policies are made according the state guidelines for compulsory attendance for students ages seven through sixteen to help ensure every child gets the most out of their education. Therefore, our goal is to have 95% or better attendance. To meet this goal, students should not miss more than nine (9) total days during the school year.

Reporting Absences

When reporting an absence, the school will request a reason to mark the absence according to the Attendance Codes below. This is to ensure that records are kept in accordance with the District Administrative Policy FFB - Attendance and Absences.

To report an absence, please contact the school secretaries via phone or email. The contact information for all schools can be found in the table below.

Tardy Notice

To have good attendance, students must come to school on time. Students are to be seated inside the classroom when the bell rings, or they will be considered tardy.

Students who are tardy not only interrupt their own learning, but may be a distraction for the teacher and students who have already started that day’s instruction.

Students who are tardy must check in at the office to receive a late pass.

If the student is late to school due to a doctor or dental appointment, the student must bring a note from the Physician’s office stating that the student was at an appointment.

If you do not provide the Physician’s note, your child will be considered tardy.

NDCC 15.1-20-02.1(1-2) states that every parent or guardian who resides within a school district, and has control over educable children of age 7-16 years, shall ensure the child attends the public school for the duration of each school year. In order for the child to not become “truant”, this law needs to be followed.
